Periodontal Conditions in Lepers
Hwang Kwang-Se

Abstract
According to Ramfjord¢¥s Periodontal Disease Index (PDI), three hundred and sixty-nine Lepers were examined for gingival ,and periodontal changes. All the patients were selected randomly among the patients resided in Solok-Do, National Leprosarium. Their ages are ranged from twenty to eighty-five years old.
A comparably high degree of indices were obtained. The mean index of all the patients were 3.18¡¾1.20 which is higher than that of who have had no history of Leprosy. As aging and the duration of leprous condition were longer, the indices increased.- But nineteen edentulous patients were excluded, author consider the index is higher than 3.18¡¾1.20. This result may come from the lack of the oral hygiene due to the inability of the patients who has the defects on hands and mentality, functional impairment on occlusion by facial paralysis, periodontal destructions by lepromatous invasion and possible side effects of long administrated drugs.
